GPDF AGM UPDATE 26-08-2024

BMA GP Committees – funding statement

GPDF pays an annual grant to the BMA, to top up the honoraria payments made to GPC members and to remunerate committee officers. The Deed of Grant sets out that the grant can only be used for these purposes. In 2025, the grant paid to the BMA was £1,648,000. In addition to this, the GPDF has funded a number of separate requests from the GPCs through its grant application process, such as additional GPC England meetings, GPC England policy groups and additional time for committee officer teams. GPDF also makes a separate annual payment to the BMA towards LMC conference staff costs through a Memorandum of Understanding.

The tables attached show a breakdown of GPC costs – with splits by committee and by nation. The information is up to June 2025, with previous years’ costs included for comparison.

The BMA also makes a significant contribution to the costs of the GPCs from its member subscriptions.

Table 1 shows the total costs of the GPCs (6 committees – GPCUK, GPC England, GPC Scotland, GPC Wales, Sessional GPs and GP Registrars) – “daily honoraria” refers to the top ups. The table shows the relative contributions of the GPDF and BMA towards GPC costs
Table 2 shows the breakdown of costs for GPC officers only
Table 3 shows the breakdown of costs for daily honoraria only (to top up the payment to committee members to an enhanced rate of £607 per day)

The BMA welcomes any questions or requests for further information at info.gpc@bma.org.uk
